Nancy’s UK Tour Journal: Vacuum Cleaners

Inventing the vacuum cleaner

Nancy-1Bonjour! It’s Nancy here – from the soon-to-be world famous pop group Nancy and the Meerkats!

After our first record “Put Your Paws Up” became a massive hit, we’re off on a huge tour of the UK!

We haven’t quite made it to stadium status yet – some of the venues are more Weeny than Wembley – but I’m going to be letting you know what’s been going on each day in my journal for Fun Kids!

We’re coming to the end of our tour now and I think we’ve been a massive hit! Although our manager Big Joe always knows how to bring us back down to earth back in the tour bus…

Do you know what he said earlier? He said “never mind selling out the venues, you guys are smelling out the van!” How rude! When you’re double diva superstars like us… you see you just don’t have time for cleaning!
We had to make time today though – Big Joe said we weren’t allowed to do any more gigs until the van was spotless!

So the girls took to wiping and polishing the sides and I had a go at vacuuming the floor. The noise the vacuum cleaner make reminded me of Kitty Perry when she’s singing! Ha, ha!

That disgusting diva dog is always trying to ruin our tour and the vacuum cleaner is a lot more useful than she is! According to Big Joe, the vacuum cleaner is all thanks to a guy called Hubert Cecil Booth who came up with the idea in 1901 – over a hundred years ago!

Before then there were some machines to clean floors but they tended just to blow the dust around. Booth came up with the idea of sucking it away instead – and he tested out his idea by sucking through a hanky! Yuck!

It was a small idea that turned into one of the most famous inventions of all time, although it was the Hoover Company who really took the idea to market!

Well it isn’t exactly the prettiest invention but it’s helped us make the van look dazzling!

Time for a well-deserved pup cake break – although I’ll try and put the wrappers in the bin this time!
