Every Christmas, the Fruit & Root Crew are keen to make sure that we don’t waste our Christmas wrapping and boxes…
Once you’ve unwrapped your presents, you’re going to have some wrapping paper, cardboard and perhaps some ribbons to think about what to do with.
Don’t throw them away… get creative.
You could create some fun collages, ornaments and even a playhouse with them!!

How about a Festive Collage?
Cut or tear some scraps of colourful wrapping paper and glue them onto a piece of plain cardboard to create a festive scene or maybe an abstract pattern!

Or a Playhouse?
If you were given presents that came in large cardboard boxes, those boxes could be transformed into a playhouse, cars or even a puppet theatres.
Use your imagination and see what you can create.
Use old wrapping paper and paint to decorate your creations, and don’t forget to add in details like windows, doors or even some racing stripes…
If you create a theatre, cut shapes from cardboard and cover them with patterned wrapping paper.
Add eyes, arms, and funny faces to create silly christmassy characters – maybe you could put on your own puppet show!

Wrapping-Paper Vegetable Garden
Christmas colours are often the same sort of colours you’d see in nature so you can use leftover wrapping paper to make a big fruit-and-veg collage.
- Green = leaves
- Red or gold = tomatoes, berries
- Brown cardboard = soil
- Use a piece of cardboard packing for your background.
- Use scissors or scrunch up the paper and glue pieces down to build your own colourful garden scene, or how about a beautiful paper bouquet?

Make-Your-Own Seed Packets
Fold small envelopes from used wrapping paper or even old envelopes that cards came in.
Decorate each one with a drawing of a fruit or vegetable.
Add seeds inside.

Perfect Pop-Up Boxes
If you have a gift box that has stiff tabs you can sometimes turn them into pop-up scenes.
Cut out wrapping-paper characters, stick them to folded tabs inside the box, push them down as you close the box and watch them “pop” when the lid opens!

Patchwork Place Mats
If you have lots of friends and family visiting over the holidays why not glue small squares of leftover wrapping paper onto strong cardboard to make place mats with pizazz for a festive feast!
