Bex has been chatting to the winners of The CLIP Carnegie & Kate Greenway Children’s Book Awards, Anthony McGowan and Shaun Tan!

These awards explore the relationship between humans and nature, and Bex hears all about it!

Anthony McGowan wrote Lark.

In the story, things are tense at home for Nicky and Kenny.

Their mum’s coming to visit and it will be the first time they’ve seen her in years. A lot has changed since they were little and Nicky’s not so sure he’s ready to see her again.

When they head for a trek across the moors to take their minds off everything, a series of unforeseen circumstances leaves the brothers in a vulnerable and very dangerous position.

There might even be a chance that this time not everyone will make it home alive.

Shaun Tan wrote Tales from the Inner City.

In that story, world-renowned artist Shaun Tan applies his extraordinary talent to a reflection on the nature of humans and animals, and our urban co-existence.

From crocodile to frog; tiger to bee, this is a dark and surreal exploration of the perennial love and destruction we feel and inflict – of how animals can save us, and how we are entwined, for better or for worse.
