A 4000mph Hyper Chariot shuttle will whisk passengers between London and Edinburgh in just 8 minutes!

You'll have barely had a chance to sit down!

If you want to get from London to Edinburgh, you’re in for a long ride!

The 332 mile journey takes about seven hours by car, at least four by train, and just over an hour if you decide to fly… but a new 4000mph super-shuttle could whisk passengers between the cities in just 8 minutes!

Dan from Fun Kids spoke to Joanna and Nick – the brains behind Hyper Chariot – for our Fun Kids Science Weekly podcast to see find out more!

The Fun Kids Science Weekly is our brand-new podcast hosted by Dan, taking a look at the weirdest and coolest stuff in science every week!

What is the Hyper Chariot?

The Hyper Chariot can accelerate from 0 to 1000mph in just 60 seconds, using ultra-powerful electric linear motors that accelerate twice as fast as a Boeing 747 plane!

The Chariot aims to use rollercoaster-type technology to catapult car-sized capsules through airless concrete tubes at five times the speed of sound!

It would be cheaper than catching the train too, with a ticket for London to Edinburgh costing around £100.

Plus, the Hyper Chariot can be 100 per cent solar powered and produces zero emissions, so it won’t just save time and money but help to save the planet too!

The only downside is… it hasn’t actually been built yet!

The Hyper Chariot is still (literally) a pipe dream but the company behind it are developing a fully-working demonstrator, ‘The Velocitator’, which will be unveiled in 2021.
