The Epping Ongar Railway runs through 6 miles of beautiful Essex countryside, surrounded by fields and forest, with rabbits, pheasant and deer often seen from the trains.
The railway is currently closed until further notice due to engineering and remodelling works.ย No date for reopening has as yet been announced.ย Any changes will be noted on the website.
By tube:
Central Line to Epping where a vintage bus (Special Event Days only) is often available to convey you to the line (trains currently stop 1 mile short of Epping)
By bus:
The 501 bus runs a two hourly service between Harlow and Romford, passing through Epping, North Weald and Ongar.
By Road
From M11
* M11, Junction 7
* Take A414 towards Chelmsford and North Weald.
* Follow for approximately 5 miles – You will go straight ahead at two roundabouts.
* At the third roundabout (BP garage on left) take the third exit towards Ongar.
* Epping Ongar Railway is located approximately 400yards on the right hand side.
From A12
* A12, Junction 15
* Take A414 towards Harlow.
* You will head into Chelmsford but then take first exit at roundabout to remain on the A414 towards Harlow.
* Follow for approximately 9 miles You will go straight ahead at two more roundabouts.
* At the third roundabout (BP garage on right) take the first exit towards Ongar.
* Epping Ongar Railway is located approximately 400 yards on the right hand side.
From M11
* M11, Junction 7
* Take A414 towards Chelmsford and North Weald.
* At the second roundabout (‘The Talbot’ – public house on left) take the third exit towards North Weald.
* Follow road into North Weald village – watch out for the speed camera!
* Station Road is on the left just after leaving the village. (newsagents and new Bovis homes on left just before turning)
From A12
* A12, Junction 15
* Take A414 towards Harlow.
* You will head into Chelmsford but then take first exit at roundabout to remain on the A414 towards Harlow.
* Follow for approximately 9 miles You will go straight ahead at two more roundabouts.
* At the fourth roundabout (BP garage on right) take the first exit towards Ongar. (‘The Talbot’ – public house on left) take the third exit towards North Weald.
* Follow road into North Weald villiage – watch out for the speed camera!
* Station Road is on the left just after leaving the villiage (newsagents and new Bovis homes on left just before turning).
