Justin Bieber is a Canadian singer and songwriter!
Justin Bieber – or to give him his full name Justin Drew Bieber! – was born in 1994 in Ontario, Canada.
While growing up, Justin was interested in hockey, soccer, and chess – and actually didn’t talk much about his love for music. However, during that time he also taught himself to play the piano, drums, guitar and trumpet!
Then in early 2007, at the age of 12, Justin performed Ne-Yo’s So Sick for a local singing competion and his mum, Pattie Mallette, posted a video of his performance on YouTube. This was where it all kicked off!
Justin and his mum continued posting videos of Bieber singing covers on YouTube and became massively popular, and these videos were how he got discovered by Scooter Braun, who became his manager.
Scooter arranged for Bieber to meet with Usher and Justin was soon signed to Raymond Braun Media Group, which was run by Scooter Braun and Usher. He also got a recording contract with Island Records. This all happened in 2008, just a year after his very first video on YouTube!
His debut single, “One Time”, released worldwide in 2009, charted in the top 30 in over ten countries. His debut release, My World, followed on November 17, 2009, and went platinum. Since then it’s really just been onwards and upwards. His My World 2.0 came out in 2010, and with massive hits like Baby, it was a sure thing to go platinum too!
He’s since gone on to sell 15 million albums and perform to hundreds of thousands of people across the world.
Justin Bieber now has a massive global fan base – known as Beliebers – and over 33 million followers on Twitter! Recently he was even named by Forbes magazine as the third most powerful celebrity in the world!
