At the Olympics, the heptathlon is an athletic event which involves 7 different events. Athletes get different amounts of points after every event depending on how well they do.

The seven events are; 100 Metre Hurdles, High Jump, Shot Put, 200 Metres sprint, Long Β Jump, Javelin Throw and the 800 Metres race. After all these events have been completed, the athlete with most points is the winner.

Jessica Ennis is a British track and field athlete who specialises in the Heptathlon. London 2012 will be her first Olympic games as she missed Bejjing 2008 because of an injury to her right foot.

However, she bounced back a year later winning the Heptathlon at the 2009 World Championships. A year later she also won both the 2010 World Indoor Championships and the 2010 European Championship. With a record like that she is one of Britain’s best athletes and hoping for a Gold medal in the Olympics this Summer.
