Grain Chain Episode 12: Celebrating

How do different people celebrate with baking?

Here in the UK, Harvest Festival takes place in Autumn, after a really successful crop.

In rural communities in England, Scotland, and Wales, many people gather in churches, community centres, or schools to have a big feast!

Some people donate food to those less fortunate in the community, whilst others use the chance to fundraise for developing countries.

In America, one of the biggest days in their calendar is thanksgiving – that’s similar! It began as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest.

Many Jewish communities celebrate Sukkot.

That means ‘Feast of Ingathering’ and occurs at the year’s end. Sukkot is what many people believe Thanksgiving stemmed from!
