While you may think of bones as stiff and immovable, your spine is quite flexible!

When you’re born, your spine has around 33 vertebrae, but some of these fuse together as you grow.
As a baby, your spine is mostly made of cartilage, which is soft and flexible.
As you get older, the cartilage turns into bone.
